Umfula VR - KZN Community Tour

Umfula – Echoes of the River - is a 360º immersive VR film by VR Capture, created over three years as a passion project to highlight the urgent need for environmental conservation. The film follows the Umfolozi River’s journey through KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, offering a visually stunning and deeply impactful experience.

Committed to bringing the film back to the communities where it was shot, VR Capture launched a community screening campaign, supported by the Presidential Employment Stimulus Package (PESP) and the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF). A dedicated team traveled from Vryheid to St Lucia, hosting VR screenings in villages and facilitating conversations on conservation.

More than just entertainment, Umfula VR became a catalyst for discussion and collaboration, connecting organisations and communities to reflect on the future of their natural resources. By introducing VR technology to rural areas, the project offered a new, immersive way for people to experience and appreciate their environment.
